Event profits are contributed to Operation Sack Lunch

The Whidbey Island Writers Association December 2 program at the Rockhopper in Clinton will feature Connie Dawson, co-author of How Much Is Enough?: Everything You Need to Know to Steer Clear of Overindulgence and Raise Likeable, Responsible, and Respectful Children. Dawson’s book, co-authored by Jean Illsley Clarke and David Bredehoft, gives parents the insight and advice they need to parent in an effective and loving way and put their children on track for a happy and successful life. The book is based on solid, groundbreaking research involving 1,200 parents and their children, and, as Dawson’s talk will point out, could be useful in helping parents re-think Christmas present buying.

All writers are invited to attend the Holiday Open House from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. and everyone is asked to bring an unwrapped new children’s book to be donated to the Holiday House project sponsored by the Readiness to Learn Foundation of Island County. Members are reminded that there are many children’s authors in the Association and their books would make excellent presents

Pre-Greening of Coupeville event - a true Christmas gift for all to enjoy!

“Our intention is to blur the lines between public spaces, the home, and the art gallery,” remarked Sandra Jarvis, owner, Museo. “This show will challenge preconceptions of art, giving visitors a view into the underground world's take on some of these most original art forms.”

The opening reception with the artists will take place at Museo, a contemporary fine art gallery at 215 First Street, during Arts Walk, which also includes the Karlson/Gray and Whidbey Art galleries. Arts Walk is free and takes place from 5 to 8PM. Arts Walk is one of the many happenings during “Langley Gets Lively” – happening on the first weekend of every month.

The Captain Whidbey Inn is hosting Island County Historical Society as they present “A Holiday Feast”

In 1907, Judge Lester Still built what was to become a world-famous log Inn that over the years has hosted thousands of guests from all over the world. The Inn celebrated its first century last Christmas with a special dinner and program presented by Island County Historical Society This year’s program will feature tours of the Inn, live music, and a special tree decorating and lighting ceremony.

The Feast offers your choice of Cranberry-Glazed Pork Roast, Braised Lamb Shank with Cranberry Chutney, or Game Hen with Wild Rice. Tickets are $100 per plate, with all proceeds benefiting the Island County Historical Museum. Please RSVP early, as space is limited.

Composed of a number of short scenes that range from the hilarious to the touching, many views of Santa are seen; from the point of view of the child who alphabetizes her Christmas list and sends it out in August as well as that of children at various stages of belief and disbelief. Santa nd his helpers shed light on many of the mysterious surroundding him, including why you don't always get the gift you ask for, how Santa delivers all those gifts in one night and more.

This session of making a petite (about 4” x 6” tall) gingerbread house is just for kids, accompanied by a parent or guardian. Work with the gingerbread lady Alice Blandin.

All materials will be provided for you. Bring a board or stiff cardboard to take your creation home on.
