• Whidbey Island's Route 525/20 is the only designated Washington State Scenic Byway on an island. It's called the "Whidbey Island Scenic Isle Way."
• Camano Island is one of the first of ten communities in the nation to be certified by the National Wildlife Federation's Community Wildlife Habitat program.
• Ebey's Landing National Historical Reserve on Whidbey Island is the first National Historic Land Reserve within the National Park system. It permits practical rural land use while preserving and protecting the historic character of the land.
• Camano Island is home to one of the largest Great Blue Heron rookeries in Puget Sound.
