A panoramic slide show by Don Baldwin, noted impersonator of environmentalist John Muir, will be presented in three Whidbey Island venues. John Muir is recognized as one of America's most significant and influential environmentalists. Founder of the Sierra Club, Muir challenged the nation to love, enjoy, and preserve its natural treasures. Don Baldwin, a retired clergyman, was appointed to serve as Resident Minister in Yosemite National Park. His love of nature and his skills as a photographer led him to develop an entertaining and compelling presentation of Yosemite and the Sierras, while taking on the persona of Muir.
Spectacular scenery comes alive on a twenty-seven foot wide triple screen, using six projectors and stereo music to dramatize the inspiring message of environmental stewardship.
"An Evening with John Muir" will raise funds to support Saratoga Community Housing, a nonprofit community land trust affordable housing project formed one year ago. Working with Habitat for Humanity, three families have moved into new homes and a fourth will be renovated and ready for occupancy in the next 60 days.
All programs start at 7:00 pm and last 90 minutes. Families are encouraged to attend. Donations of $10 for adults and $15 for families are encouraged

Zombies from the Beyond is a zippy, trippy, 50s musical play by James Valcq about American ideals set in the Eisenhower era; as the Cold War and space-race paranoia begin to threaten the good folks at the fictional Milwaukee Space Center in 1955. A time when flying saucers or UFOs were landing everywhere; and bomb shelters were being built in the backyards of Ozzie and Harriet houses all over the United States.
The basic plot involves the invasion of Earth by a flying saucer piloted by a buxom alien, Zombina and her Zombettes. Their aim is to conquer and enslave all Earths men in order to repopulate their totally female planet by using Zombina's secret weapon, her hypnotic singing voice. Throw in a brave scientist, an Army general and his lovely daughter, a Russian spy, and a tap-dancing delivery boy and you've got a really funny show.
Will Zombina and her Zombettes succeed in capturing Earths men for their planet? Will this be the end of Earth as we know it? If you're up for a whacky spoof of a musical, "Zombies from the Beyond" should have you laughing heartily and shaking your head in disbelief at the same time.

Set in rural Louisiana during World War II, this play follows the lives of six women thrown together by the war. Three young wives are living with their husbands' mother in her home, waiting for the men to return. The family's situation is chronicled in the local press by reporter Addie May and is picked up by Life magazine, whose reporter is struggling to compete for good assignments in a male-dominated world. From the monologues of the women, who make up six of the seven cast members, to the interplay between them, there is something that makes the audience uncomfortable and ill at ease in the best possible sense. The play is not meant for children.

Being home to NAS Whidbey Island, there's no better place to celebrate America's birthday than right here in Oak Harbor. The Old Fashioned 4th of July is truly a hometown celebration. The grand parade kicks off with a flyover by a Prowler or P3 from NAS Whidbey, and the celebration goes on all day and into the night, ending with a big bang -- a professional fireworks display over the harbor.
