Both Whidbey and Camano Islands are a popular destination for the serious and more casual cyclist. Although the main highway on Whidbey Island has been designated a Scenic Byway, the best way to see the island is by biking smaller roads that have less traffic and are equally bucolic. The same applies to Camano, and the terrain on both islands ranges from easy to very difficult. For longer hauls, all Island County Transit buses are equipped with bike racks, and the ride is free! There are several bike events on the islands, including the Whidbey Island Mudder, for mountain bikers; the Camano Climb, in the spring; and the Tour de Whidbey in the fall. Bike rentals, sales and repair are available on South Whidbey at historic Bayview Corner.
