Theater is a passion for many residents of the islands. Whidbey Island has three movie theaters: The Clyde Theatre in Langley and Oak Harbor's Plaza Cinemas and Blue Fox Drive-In Theater (the latter has a go-kart track!). Live theater is staged in Langley at Whidbey Island Center for the Arts (WICA) and Whidbey Children's Theatre, as well as Oak Harbor's Whidbey Playhouse. Residents and visitors to Camano Island frequent cinemas at the Pavillion and the Camwood Players for live productions, both in nearby Stanwood (on the mainland).

At the Whidbey Island Center for Arts and Whidbey Playhouse, frequent workshops and classes include acting, make up and stage management. Coupeville Arts Center holds classes and workshops on textiles and painting, drawing from the natural surroundings.
